League Age

Placement in Plymouth Little League softball divisions is based on a player's Little League Age, which may differ from their actual age.

Use the Little League Age Calculator to determine your child's official league age before registering. Please note that Little League uses separate age charts for baseball and softball, so be sure to select the appropriate sport when calculating your player's league age.

Required Equipment

Players are required to bring the following equipment to

practices and games:

  • Cleats

  • Softball Glove

  • Batting Helmet with Face Mask (Face Cage)

  • USSSA-Certified Softball Bat

  • Defensive Fielding Mask

Optional Equipment

The following items are optional but recommended:

  • Batting Gloves

Rookie Softball

League Age

The Rookie Softball Division is for League Age 7–8 players.

 

Overview

Rookie Softball is a machine-pitch division that utilizes the Blue Flame Pitching Machine to provide players with consistent pitches while continuing to develop fundamental softball skills.

Games are played on Field 1, a regulation Little League softball field.

The primary focus of this division is instruction, skill development, teamwork, and building confidence in a fun and supportive environment.

 

Scores are not kept during the regular season. An end-of-season playoff is held during the final week of the season to give players the opportunity to experience postseason play in a positive and enjoyable setting.

 

Spring Schedule

  • 10–12 game season

  • Typically 1 weeknight game and 1 Saturday game per week

  • Practices are scheduled based on coach and field availability

 

The Rookie Softball Division helps prepare players for the transition to kid-pitch softball while reinforcing the fundamentals of throwing, catching, fielding, hitting, and base running.

Minors Softball

League Age

The Minors Softball Division is for League Age 9–10 players.

Overview

Minors Softball is a kid-pitch division played with a 35-foot pitching distance on Field 1, a regulation Little League softball field.

This division builds upon the fundamentals developed in Rookie Softball while introducing players to a more competitive environment. Players continue to refine their pitching, hitting, fielding, base running, and overall softball knowledge while developing a deeper understanding of game strategy.

Scores are kept throughout the regular season, and teams may participate in interleague play against neighboring Little League programs, providing additional competition and development opportunities.

Spring Schedule

  • 10–12 game regular season

  • Typically 1 weeknight game and 1 Saturday game per week

  • Practices are scheduled based on coach and field availability

 

The Minors Softball Division serves as the next step in player development, preparing athletes for the Majors Division through increased competition while continuing to emphasize skill development, teamwork, sportsmanship, and confidence.

Majors Softball

League Age: 11–12

Overview

The Majors Softball Division is a kid-pitch program played with a 40-foot pitching distance on Field 1, a regulation Little League softball field.

This division provides a more competitive environment where players continue to refine their offensive and defensive skills while developing a deeper understanding of game strategy and situational play. Scores and standings are kept throughout the season, and teams compete against neighboring Little Leagues, giving players additional opportunities to challenge themselves and prepare for higher levels of play.

Spring Schedule

The season consists of approximately 12 games, with most games played on weeknights. Practices are scheduled by each team's coaching staff based on field availability to support continued skill development and game preparation.

Juniors Softball

League Age: 13–14

 

Overview

The Juniors Softball Division is a kid-pitch program played with a 43-foot pitching distance on Field 1, a regulation Little League softball field.

 

Designed for players looking to continue developing their skills at a more advanced level, this division emphasizes competitive game play, teamwork, and softball strategy. Scores and standings are kept throughout the season, and teams compete against neighboring Little Leagues, providing players with additional competition and opportunities for growth.

Spring Schedule

 

The season consists of approximately 12 games, with most games played on weeknights. Practices are scheduled by each team's coaching staff based on field availability and are designed to further develop players' skills and prepare them for competition.
